Sustainability plays an important role within NEDCON. Across our organisation, we continuously look for ways to reduce our environmental impact and improve the way we operate. Our production facility in the Czech Republic has been actively contributing to these ambitions for many years
Over the years, this commitment has evolved into a broad range of initiatives that support a more sustainable operation. In this blog, we share the measures that have been implemented, the progress made so far and the next steps in the facility’s sustainability journey.
Turning ideas into action
The Czech facility’s sustainability journey started with a dedicated team exploring opportunities to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Together, they identified potential improvements, assessed their feasibility and translated the most promising ideas into concrete actions.
Over the years, this approach has resulted in several tangible improvements across the facility. One of the most visible examples is the installation of solar panels on the facility’s roof. Combined with the use of electricity from renewable sources, this helps reduce the site’s reliance on grey energy. The facility has also modernised its lighting system, optimised heating installations and introduced heat recovery systems in the coating and welding departments.
In addition, the site is gradually electrifying its operations. Gas-powered forklifts are being replaced with electric alternatives where possible, charging infrastructure has been installed and the company vehicle fleet is becoming increasingly sustainable through the introduction of hybrid vehicles. Preparations are also being made to further modernise heating systems and explore alternatives to traditional gas-based installations.
Moving beyond the quick wins
With many of the initial sustainability measures now implemented, the focus is shifting from quick wins to long-term optimisation. The next step is to gain a deeper understanding of energy consumption across the facility, allowing the team to identify new efficiency opportunities and further reduce CO₂ emissions.
This increased insight will help the facility prioritise future improvements and focus investments where they can have the greatest impact. Key areas of focus include expanding the use of renewable energy, further electrifying operations and continuing the transition towards more sustainable heating systems. As part of this effort, the site is also working towards recognised energy management standards.
Sustainability is a team effort
The progress achieved so far is the result of collaboration across the entire facility. From the very beginning, a multidisciplinary team has been involved in this process. Production departments are closely involved throughout the process, helping to assess which initiatives can make the greatest impact.
To keep sustainability high on the agenda, employees are regularly updated on ongoing initiatives. At the same time, they are encouraged to share their own ideas for further improvements. This collaborative approach ensures that sustainability remains an integral part of daily operations.
Looking ahead
While significant progress has already been made, the Czech facility continues to explore new opportunities to further reduce its environmental impact. By building on the progress achieved so far and continuously identifying new opportunities for improvement, the facility remains committed to reducing its CO₂ footprint and supporting NEDCON’s long-term sustainability ambitions.
