At NEDCON, we believe in personal development and making the most of our employees’ talents. That’s why we encourage our team members to take on new challenges within the company. A great example of this is the recent role change of Hemco Jan and May, both have taken a new step within NEDCON. In this blog, they share their experiences, motivations, and how this transition contributes to their personal growth.
Hemco Jan’s transition from Structural Engineer to R&D Engineer
Hemco Jan has been with NEDCON for nearly 4.5 years. He started as an intern and after completing his Mechanical Engineering studies, deliberately chose to continue working at NEDCON. “The friendly atmosphere and the willingness of colleagues to help each other really appealed to me,” he says. As a Structural Engineer, he was responsible for ensuring the strength and stability of structures according to international standards. “What I enjoyed most was being involved in the entire process, from design to realization. I even had the opportunity to visit a project in the United States. Seeing these massive systems in person really put into perspective just how large the structures NEDCON builds actually are.”
However, he felt the need to further develop his skills. “I realized that, alongside project work, I also enjoyed developing tools that make calculations faster and more efficient. That’s why I made the move to R&D Engineer.” His new role allows him to focus more on innovation and optimization within NEDCON. “My experience as a Structural Engineer is incredibly helpful in this, as I understand which calculations are needed at the project level. Now, I can apply that knowledge to developing new tools.”
His colleagues responded positively to the transition. “They see it as a great opportunity to enhance knowledge exchange between Structural Engineering and R&D,” he says enthusiastically. He also appreciates NEDCON’s support in this transition: “The company really took the time to consider what suited me best, which gave me confidence in taking this step.”
May’s switch from R&D to Structural Engineering
May has been with NEDCON for 3.5 years and began her career as an intern in the Research Development & Products department. With a background in Applied Mechanical Engineering and an additional qualification in Concrete and Steel Structures, she has always been focused on innovation and safety within NEDCON. “What attracted me to R&D was that all research was aimed at innovation and expanding our technical knowledge. The fact that we have our own Test Center, where theory and practice come together, made it even more interesting.”
Nevertheless, she decided to switch to Structural Engineering. “I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Structural Design and felt an increasing desire to apply that knowledge in practice. As a Structural Engineer, I am directly involved in the technical development of structures and work closely on projects. That’s what drew me to this role.”
Although she will miss testing and her direct colleagues, she looks forward to her new position with enthusiasm. “I see this as an opportunity to further develop myself and build a broader expertise within NEDCON.”
‘’built to last, designed for growth’’
The role changes of Hemco Jan and May clearly demonstrate how NEDCON provides employees with the space to shape their career paths within the company. By looking internally at talent and motivation, we ensure that our employees not only grow in their roles but also feel motivated to stay at NEDCON. This way, we work together to build a stable organization where development is a central focus.
